WP 1: Education & Upskilling
The Education WP encompasses all aspects of education, from literacy skills for trans+ folks who need them, to community learning and upskilling at local level. As a community of practice, all activities are underpinned by lifelong learning principles. We intend education to be culture-dependent, empowering and affirming rather than prescriptive. Some of the activities we will dedicate to include microlearning and mobile learning for vulnerable individuals (home based, low bandwidth friendly modules), community workshops, upskilling trans+ affirming MOOCs. WP 2- Cultural Justice
We believe that cultural justice is a legitimate goals for all gender non-conforming people. We need fair and positive representation, but we also need to be able to tell our stories our way, without fear of censorship, repression, or violence. We have always existed, but we have been ushed to the margins of society by ever increasingly repressive cultural frameworks and regimes. The Culture WP of the Lab weaves learnings from Research, Education and disciplines such as Cultural Heritage and the Arts to open up more inclusive and empowering opportunities for cultural production and enjoyment for all trans, non-binary and intersex folks who want to get involved or simply want to see more just and equitable representation and access to culture in their communities, at national level, and globally.
Snapshot: Reparative Learning
The Trans+ Learning Lab follows the reparative learning project, which acknowledges and aims to rectify historical and ongoing injustices for our trans, non-binary, intersex and gender non-conforming communities within educational and cultural systems.
In the spirit of reparative learning, the Lab creates a learning, upskilling and mentorship environment that acknowledges past harms and promotes healing and justice.
Our collective reparative pedagogies draw on an expansive, non-instrumental understanding of educators' work, aiming to develop teaching, learning and mentoring relationships that address harm and exclusion in our trans+ community.
The Trans+ learning lab’s vision imagines and creates institutional and professional futures where gender diversity and lived experience set the agenda, not the other way around.
We envisage a world in which multiplicity, intersectionality, truth-telling, radical care and mutual responsibility are prioritised as educational and cultural paradigms.
